November Scripture Reading and Devotion

Healing and Health

Pastor Bernie Samples

November 1st Exodus 15:26 This is one of the first verses on divine healing that I ever heard. It was one of the first covenant promises God gave Israel when He brought them out of Egyptian slavery. That is a type of the New Birth. Before you were Born Again you were a slave to satan and sin. Now you are free to come into God’s promised land of the New Covenant! But the good from the Old Testament is for you too! God identified Himself by different covenant names to Israel. One of those names is Jehovah Rapha and it means, “I AM the Lord that healeth thee.” So for day one of our study, write this verse down on a 3x5 card or on your screen saver on your phone or both. Read it out loud several times a day quoting chapter and verse so you always know where to find it.

Faith Confession: Healing belongs to me and my family! It is a covenant promise from Jehovah Rapha! He is the Lord that healeth me!

November 2nd Proverbs 4:20-24 God’s will is for you to enjoy divine healing and health as a way of life. These verses tell us His method to live in divine health and receive healing if we need it. Verse 23 The word “health” in Hebrew means “medicine”. So God is saying, “His Word is His medicine for all your physical body!” Verse 24 Original Hebrew would say something like this, “Above all else guard your spirit, for out of it flow the forces of life”. So when you take time to meditate in healing passages, that is putting God’s medicine in your spirit. The result is healing for all of your physical body.

Faith Confession: God’s Word is God’s Medicine and I will always be diligent to take God’s Medicine and live a life of healing and health!

November 3rd Proverbs 4:20-23 This is such an important passage for building your faith in the area of healing that I want to look at it again today. Verse 20 This tells us a couple of things. 1) “Attend to Words”. Attend a church that teaches that Jesus is still the healer today. Attend = Pay attention and don’t allow yourself to be distracted when healing is being taught. 2) “Incline thine ear”. Jesus said, “He that hath an ear, let him hear”. This is talking about your spiritual ears. Don’t allow mental blockage from previous religious (non-scriptural) teaching hinder what the Bible really says about God’s will for you to be healed!

Faith Confession: I will be serious about learning what my Bible says about the subject of healing and health! I will always listen with an open heart and if previous non-biblical teaching contradicts the Bible, I will always go with the Bible!

November 4th Psalm 103:1-5 Remember God’s Word is God’s medicine! In this Psalm David says that we must not only know but continually remind ourselves of the benefits of serving God. Verse 3 When we ask Him to forgive our sins - He does! When we ask Him to heal us - He does! Because Exodus 15:26 says, He is Jehovah Rapha (The Lord that heals us)! Verse 4 He has redeemed our life from the destructive path we were on! Verse 5 Our mouth is the key to our victory of healing and health! His good things in our mouth are the Bible verses on healing and health! Keep your heart and mouth full of the Word and your body will stay full of healing and health!

Faith Confession: I will always bless the Lord, O my soul and forget not that He forgives all my sins and heals all my diseases! These are benefits of selling out to Jesus!

November 5th Proverbs 12:18 “There is one who speaks like the piercings of a sword, but the tongue of the wise promotes health.” This verse is similar to Proverbs 18:21 (turn to it and read it out loud). What these verses say is,” THERE IS POWER AND AUTHORITY IN YOUR WORDS!” Remember Proverbs 4:23 “Guard your spirit for out of it flow the forces of life!”

Faith Confession: I will have what I say so I will train myself every day to speak words of healing and health! Faith doesn’t deny things, faith changes things! If I receive a bad report, I won’t deny it, but I will speak words of healing from the Bible and watch Jehovah Rapha do what He said He would do! JESUS IS MY LORD AND MY HEALER!

November 6th Hebrews 7:22 and Hebrews 8:6 tell us that the New Testament is better than the Old Testament and even has better promises! Stop and think about the promises that we have seen in the Old Testament so far in this month’s study! These verses in Hebrews say that, Jesus today has a more excellent ministry because He is alive and guarantees these promises will come to pass in our lives when we hear, receive, believe and speak them!

Faith Confession: Healing for God’s people is promised in the Old and New Testaments! Healing belongs to me and I will never let the devil or anyone else talk me out of it!

November 7th Matthew 4:23-24 In Jesus’ earthly ministry many people received healing! But if you look closely at verse 23 you will see a key. Jesus was “TEACHING and PREACHING the GOSPEL of the Kingdom!” Faith comes by hearing the Word of God (Romans 10:17). Faith pleases God (Hebrews 11:6). So before healing came to the multitudes, they had faith to receive because they heard Jesus preach and teach healing!

Faith Confession: I know that if I want faith for healing I must submit to a ministry that preaches and teaches healing! Then I will receive faith to be healed!

November 8th Matthew 9:35-36 We see a pattern in Jesus’ ministry! His ministry practice was always to TEACH, PREACH and then HEALING was guaranteed to follow! Jesus knew and so do preachers that follow His example, that if we want people to have faith to be healed, we must put faith from God’s Word into them first. Verse 36 Jesus knew, and it’s still true today, sheep without a shepherd are weak and confused.

Faith Confession: I know from God’s Word that Jesus said, “Sheep need a shepherd”. I will pray and listen to Jesus speak to my heart and know who my pastor is! I will sit under the teaching and preaching of a pastor that teaches healing like Jesus did!

November 9th Matthew 8:14-15 One way that Jesus healed, but not the only way, was through laying on of hands. When Jesus touched Peter’s mother-in-law’s hand, it wasn’t just a nice thing to do. Jesus was full of healing anointing because of the Holy Ghost in Him! When He laid His hand on her He transmitted the healing power of God into her sick body and the sickness had to leave. Read Mark 16:17-18. If you are a believer, you can lay your hands on sick people in Jesus Name and He will heal them. See Verses 19-20.

Faith Confession: I’m a believer and when I lay hands on the sick they do receive healing in Jesus Name!

November 10th Mark 1:39-42 What a great testimony of how God’s healing system works! Verse 39 Preaching puts faith into the hearts of the hearers! Verse 40 The sick man wasn’t sure about God’s will to heal him. Verse 41 Jesus assured the sick man, “I WILL HEAL YOU!” Then laying on of hands again! Verse 42 Healing came immediately!

Faith Confession: It is the will of God to heal me and my loved ones! Jesus says so! Jesus is the same yesterday, today and forever! Thank You Jesus for teaching us that it is your will to heal us!

November 11th Mark 9:17-23 Another way to receive healing, but not the only way, is through your own faith! Verse 23 Jesus said, (paraphrased) “It’s not a matter of what I can do, it’s a matter of what you can believe I will do for you!” Stop and meditate on those words! Examine your heart. Do you have faith in God’s Word that Jesus loves you even knowing that you’re not perfect? Just like Jesus told the leper, “I will, be thou clean (healed).”

Faith Confession: Jesus I know it’s not a matter of what You can do. But it’s a matter of what I believe You will do for me! I believe that You are my healer! I receive Your healing power today into every part of my physical body that needs it! Thank You Jesus, Amen.

November 12th Mark 10:46-52 This is another example of a person receiving healing through their own faith. Verse 46 Blindness is what I would say is impossible for medical science to cure. Verse 47 “WHEN HE HEARD” (Romans 10:17). Always remember the first step to develop your faith for healing is to HEAR WHAT YOUR BIBLE SAYS ABOUT HEALING! Verse 51 The blind man told Jesus what he BELIEVED Jesus WOULD not COULD do for him. Verse 52 Notice Jesus told him, “YOUR FAITH HAS MADE YOU WHOLE!” Not Jesus’ faith! The blind man’s faith received healing from blindness!!! JESUS IS NO RESPECTER OF PERSONS BUT JESUS IS A RESPECTER OF FAITH! If this man’s faith could receive healing from blindness, what impossible thing do you want Jesus to do for You?

Faith Confession: I will not limit You Jesus by doubt and unbelief! Jesus Your Word says in Mark 9:23 “All things are possible to him that believes!” I believe I receive my healing for _________ (you fill in the blank). Thank You Jesus that I have received (not going to) but I have received my healing.

November 13th James 5:14-15 This is another way to receive healing from Jesus but not the only way! Verse 14 The sick person needs to call upon the elders of the church to anoint them with oil in the Name of Jesus. Verse 15 And THE ELDERS NEED TO KNOW HOW TO PRAY THE PRAYER OF FAITH! Not the prayer of doubt and unbelief! Too many church leaders haven’t got a clue how to pray the prayer of faith. Notice THE PRAYER OF FAITH SHALL HEAL THE SICK! Not the elders! Not the oil!! So you need to be in a church that believes in healing enough to be able to pray THE PRAYER OF FAITH for you if you need healing!

Faith Confession: Jesus I have faith in your Word that if I ask my church elders to pray the prayer of faith, that when they pray I will receive healing from you! Hint: If your church leadership doesn’t actively preach and teach healing on a regular basis, they probably don’t know how to pray the prayer of faith.

November 14th Mark 11:22-23 In these verses Jesus tells us how the God kind of faith will work for anyone. Then in verse 24 He explains the principle of THE PRAYER OF FAITH. “WHEN YOU PRAY BELIEVE YOU RECEIVE”, not going to receive in the future. Not going to receive when you feel something. BELIEVE YOU RECEIVE WHEN YOU PRAY AND YOU SHALL HAVE AND YOU SHALL HAVE AND YOU SHALL HAVE!!! The PRAYER OF FAITH WILL THANK GOD IT HAS RECEIVED WITHOUT A FEELING OR CONFIRMATION! The only confirmation the prayer of faith needs is James 5:15!

Faith Confession: Father thank You for Your Word! I believe I receive when I pray so I know that I receive as soon as I pray! I don’t need a feeling or anyone to prophesy to me! Your Word is all I need! So I will just thank You for the integrity of Your Word!

November 15th Luke 17:11-19 A great lesson for receiving all that Jesus has for you! Verse 14 “As they went, they were cleansed”. The lepers obeyed Jesus and the disease stopped doing damage. But they were still missing fingers, toes, etc. Look closely at verses 15-17, this man got serious about giving glory to God and being thankful for his healing! This really caught Jesus’ attention. Verse 19 Jesus told him, “THY FAITH HATH MADE THEE WHOLE.” This means his damaged and missing body parts were restored! Jesus called it faith when a believer is thankful and gives Him the glory for healing!

Faith Confession: Jesus, thank You for being my Lord and my Healer! I’m so grateful for my healing and health! I give You praise, honor and glory for my life and my strength! You are my everything! I will honor and serve You all the days of my life!

November 16th l Thessalonians 5:16-18 Jesus wants us to be grateful and express it out of our mouths. Wrong teaching has confused many Christians. Look again at verse 18 “In everything give thanks for this is the will of God …” Thank Him for His goodness and mercy and healing power working in your life. So, “IN” every challenge you face, give God thanks for His Word working in your life to give you victory!”

Faith Confession: Father I will always give you praise and glory for Who You are and all the good things that You have done, and are doing, and I know You will always do in my life!

November 17th Proverbs 18:21 Notice that it is easier to speak death before life because that is part of the nature of fallen man. Romans 12:2 As born again Christians, we need to train ourselves to speak life instead of death concerning our physical healing and health. Remember Proverbs 12:18 the tongue of the wise speaks health. I like to say this, “Faith doesn’t deny things, faith changes things.”

Faith Confession: Jesus is my Lord and Savior, my Holy Ghost baptizer, and my HEALER. He is Jehovah Rapha, the Lord that healeth me.

November 18th Romans 8:11 Recognize the Holy Spirit that lives in you quickens (gives life) to your physical body. This is talking about divine healing and health from the inside out. One of the purposes of the Holy Spirit is to heal us from all the sickness and disease that tries to attack our physical bodies.

Faith Confession: Father, thank You for the great Holy Spirit who lives in me. Thank You Holy Spirit, for continually giving life to my physical body.

November 19th Acts 10:38 This verse says that Jesus is the Healer and the devil is the one that oppresses people with sickness and disease. This is in line with John 10:10 “The thief comes to steal, kill and destroy” and Jesus is the One who brings healing and life abundantly to mankind! All sickness and all disease came into the earth with the fall of man in the garden. Sickness is from the devil either as a natural thing because of the fall or it could be a demon spirit oppressing the human body. Either way, Jesus Christ is the same, yesterday, today, and forever and healing comes from Him.

Faith Confession: Satan, I resist you and all of your attacks on my physical body in Jesus Name. Jesus, thank You that You are still the same and Your anointing is working in my body and giving me healing and health.

November 20th Luke 13:10-16 This is a report of Jesus teaching and healing in a service. Verses 11-12 A woman was oppressed by an evil spirit for 18 years and Jesus called her out, just like preachers do today. He told her she was free from the spirit and then verse 13 He laid His hands on her and her body straightened up and she glorified God. Verses 14-16 The religious leaders were upset because Jesus didn’t conform to their religious rules. Verse 16 Jesus said, “This woman was a daughter of Abraham” (and Jesus always was and is covenant minded) and satan was the one who had made her sick the same as today.

Faith Confession: Father, I want to thank You again, that Jesus uses preachers today in church services to teach and to heal. And thank You Lord for our covenant that You are Jehovah Rapha, the Lord who heals us!

November 21st Revelation 12:7-12 As you can see in verses 7-10 satan started off in Heaven and because of pride and rebellion, Jesus kicked him out and that is how he got to the Garden of Eden. Verse 12 satan hates all human beings because we are created in God’s image. He knows that his eternal judgment and the lake of fire are coming soon. Verse 11 We overcome him and all sickness and disease attacks and everything else because of the blood of Jesus and the victory through that blood and our continual testimony of how great Jesus is and all that He is doing in our lives!

Faith Confession: Father, thank You for the blood of Jesus and the victory in that blood. I plead the blood of Jesus over my life and my family. We are overcomers because of all that Jesus has done for us. We will live long and we will live strong, sold out, dedicated, serving Jesus every day of our lives. Hallelujah!

November 22nd Isaiah 38:1-5 In this passage Hezekiah was on his death bed. In verses 1-3, he had no human being that could help him. From his heart he got really serious with the Lord and was honest and even wept, and wept sincerely. In verses 4-5 the Lord said “I’ve heard your heart and seen your tears (evidently they weren’t crocodile tears, they were real because you can’t con God!). The Lord said, “Because of your sincere heart and tears I will give you 15 more years of life.” If you ever come to the place, and have done all you know to do, then stop talking to everybody else and open your heart and your mouth unto Jesus and tell Him how you really feel. He has compassion and respect for sincere words and not phony con jobs.

Faith Confession: Jesus, I love You and I’m so glad that you know my heart. I sincerely want to live out my days to the fullest, fully pleasing you and being a blessing to everyone who crosses m path. If I am doing anything that grieves You, just let me know and I’ll change.

November 23rd Proverbs 3:7, 8 Verse 7 reminds me of a popular song when I was younger. It was called “I Did It My Way”. Proverbs 14:12 says living life your way, instead of God’s, will always lead to death. This is not only talking about eternal separation from God, but could also lead to premature death. Back to Proverbs 3:7 this tells us when you fear and reverence the Lord and quit living life like an unsaved person verse 8 healing and health from God will work in your physical body and strength and refreshment to your bone marrow.

Faith Confession: Father, I purpose to not live my life my way, but I will live a life of reverence and submission to You. I will say “no” to sin and “yes” to doing right in Your sight. I know that keeps the door open for divine healing and health to work in my physical body. Amen

November 24th Malachi 3:10-12 Jesus is Lord over the Kingdom of God and like any kingdom, there are laws and ordinances set up to live a happy life in the kingdom. The law of the tithe is not a God tax, it is part of His system in governing His Body on the earth. As everything else in the Kingdom of God there is always the God part and the man part. God said, “Bring the tithe into His storehouse and He will rebuke the devourer for our sakes.” Jesus said, “The thief comes to steal, kill and destroy.” All sickness and all disease steals, kills and destroys. Another way to say that is “it devours”. When my son was 3 ½ years old, was crippled, and had leukemia, I got on my knees beside his hospital bed and reminded the Lord that He had said, “Prove Him if He would not rebuke the devourer for my sake.” As I said that, I pointed over at my son in the hospital bed, crippled, full of tubes in his body, and I said, “Jesus, you know my wife and I are faithful tithers and my son is being devoured right now so I’m proving you to rebuke the devourer for our sakes.” Two weeks from diagnosis, he was walking, and leaping and praising God. The doctors said there was no cancer in his body. That was in 1989. Today he is a healthy, happy husband and father to four children. He and his wife are serving the Lord as Pastors. Glory to God! Thank You Lord for the law of the tithe. The Word works when you work the Word.

Faith Confession: No matter what the devil says, or what ignorant and unlearned religious people say, tithing is an ordinance and principle of the Kingdom of God on earth. I will always be faithful to tithe and I know it’s not paying off God, but it’s a way of life as a citizen of the Kingdom of God. If sickness or disease attacks my family or me, I will always do what Jesus said, and prove Him to rebuke the devourer for our sakes.

November 25th Galatians 3:13-14, 29; Deuteronomy 28:61. Deuteronomy 28 tells us there are blessings in obeying and serving God according to His Word. There are curses and calamities for refusing to serve and disobedience. It is impossible for any human being to totally obey or live a perfect life. That’s why the Father sent His Only Begotten Son, Jesus Christ. According to these verses, Jesus became a curse for us. He paid the penalty for sin and disobedience. Of course, we can see these verses are talking about Abraham and the Jewish people. But notice that this blessing comes on non-Jews through receiving Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior. Then verse 29 says because we belong to Christ, we ARE Abraham’s seed. We aren’t Abraham’s physical seed, but by being Born Again, we are his spiritual seed. Deuteronomy 28:61 says, “Every sickness and every disease is a curse.” So, Glory to God, whatever it is that invades your body is a curse and Jesus already took that curse for you!

Faith Confession: According to Galatians 3:13, 14, 29 Jesus became a curse for me, so the blessings of Abraham could come to me, according to the promise of the Holy Spirit. In Deuteronomy 28 Jesus never failed but kept all the law to qualify me for the blessings because I am in Christ through the New Birth. Verse 61 says all sickness and disease is a curse, so ____________________________________ (fill in the blank) cannot stay in my body because Jesus already took it for me.

November 26th Isaiah 53:4, 5; Matthew 8:17; I Peter 2:24 These three passages all say the same thing. Jesus Christ took our sins and took our sicknesses. This is a vital part of our redemption. He was beaten by the Roman soldiers with the whip and received 39 stripes on His back. Isaiah prophesied this 750 years before the birth of Christ. Matthew repeated this shortly before Jesus went to the cross. Peter told of it as history after it had taken place. So we need to know that Jesus not only paid the price for our sins but took the physical beating for our physical healing.

Faith Confession: Thank You Jesus for taking my infirmities and bearing my sicknesses and by Your stripes I WAS healed, so I AM healed! Hallelujah!

November 27th Mark 16:17-18; Hebrews 4:12 When my son was in the hospital with leukemia, the Holy Spirit used these two passages to show me how things work in the spirit. Blood cells are produced in the bone marrow. So doctors do a bone marrow test to see what kind of cells are being produced. This is the best place for them to see healthy or cancerous cells. I saw that my hands were like a hypodermic needle full of the healing anointing of God! So when I laid hands as a believer on my son, the healing power of God was injected into his bone marrow and he started getting better minute by minute! Within two weeks of diagnosis, the doctors said there was no leukemia but all new blood cells!!!

Faith Confession: Whenever hands have been laid on you, say this, “Hands have been laid on me and the healing power of God that is better than any medicine is going through my blood stream and every cell of my body! I’m getting better minute by minute!”

November 28th 3 John 2 Here is how I read this verse - “Beloved, I pray above all things that you may prosper and LIVE IN DIVINE HEALTH, even as your soul prospers.” There is a difference between divine healing and divine health. Divine healing means you receive healing from God if you are sick. Divine health means you stay healthy and don’t get sick. Your soul refers to your mind, will, and emotions. For your soul to prosper is referring to Romans 12:2 the continual renewing of your mind to think in line with the Word of God. To live in divine health and receive healing IF, not when you need it. I suggest you continually study out all that has been taught this month and research your own Bible and study along the lines of divine healing and divine health.

Faith Confession: According to God’s Word He wants me to prosper and live in divine health. I want that too! So my soul is going to prosper because I will always be a student of God’s Word, especially studying healing and health according to what God says.

November 29th 1 Peter 2:24 Notice that in this verse, the Holy Spirit puts sin and sickness in the same category. That is because they have the same spiritual father, the devil. Jesus paid the total price for our redemption from sin and sickness. He took our sins in His body on the cross and the stripes on His back for our healing. Also this verse says we should live unto righteousness. This means our spirit on the inside is the Righteousness of God in Christ (2 Corinthians 5:21). We should live on the outside what we already have on the inside. Pastor David said, “This verse is my receipt that my healing has already been paid for!”

Faith Confession: Thank You Jesus for taking my sins in Your body on the cross so I am dead to sinning and I will live right in Your sight every day. By Your stripes I WAS healed so I AM healed!

November 30th Exodus 15:26 We are going to finish this month with where we started. Notice the phrase “…will do that which is right in His sight”. This is so similar to yesterday’s verse 1 Peter 2:24. We’re dead to sinning and should live unto righteousness. This is really big in God’s eyes. He wants us to live right. Sin and sickness are cousins and Jesus wants us to say “NO” to both. All sickness is NOT caused because we sinned, but sin definitely opens the door for sickness. As children of God, we should endeavor to live in light of the Word of God that we know. He said here, “I AM Jehovah Rapha. The Lord that healeth thee.” We know the will of God. He wants us to “prosper and be in health even as our soul prospers”. Let’s walk in agreement with Jehovah Rapha every day of our lives.

Faith Confession: Father, it is so good to know where You stand for my eternal salvation and my life on earth. It is good to know You took my sins and You took my sicknesses. By Your stripes I WAS healed, so I AM healed. I will walk in faith and love all the days of my life and enjoy Your best while on earth and go to Heaven when I die at a ripe old age, unless the Rapture comes first.
